Cats are really amazing creatures and if you have decided to adopt one as your sweet purring pet it would be really helpful to get to know them better. Here are some curious facts that are worth taking into consideration as it comes to the nature of your new pet.

4 Facts That You didn't Know About Your Feline

The reason why cat eyes glow in the dark is that cats have a very complex eye structure which allows them to reflect even the smallest amount of light. In fact cat eyes absorb so much light because they have very large pupils which are controlled by a pair of ciliary muscles. Once that the light is absorbed it hits a mirror-like membrane known as the tapetum lucidum which if located behind their retina. Once that the light hits the tapetum lucidum it travels back thru the retina and makes the eyes glow.

The cats’ tongues have rough texture which resembles sandpaper. If we look it up-close cats’ tongues are covered with small barbs which make the tongue surface jagged. These small barbs are the tools which allow cats to comb their fur and drink water easily.

The cat’s tail of contains 10% of his bones. It acts like a counterweight and allows cats to maneuver along narrow spaces. Also the weight of the tail allows the cat to make sudden turns. Another important characteristic of their tail is that it reveals the mood of your pet. By looking at the position of the tail one can understand if the cat is relaxed, agitated or indifferent.

The purr sound that cats make is one of the greatest mysteries of mankind. According to some experts cats purr to showcase their mood while others insist that the purring is simply a form of signaling that the cat mothers makes so that their kittens can find her. The purring sound is produced by the diaphragmatic and laryngeal muscles.

Therefore if you own a cat take good care of it by providing it with a healthy indoor environment by frequently cleaning with pet friendly cleaning products.
